During this Season of Creation, and in the lead-up to COP31 (November 2026) and Pre-COP events in Fiji and Tuvalu (October 2026), we share this prayer resource with you. Please share it widely with your networks.
A Prayer for Pre‑COP: Reconciliation with Creation in the Pacific
Words by Sue Martin, Ignatian Eco-Spirituality Coordinator at Jesuit Ignatian Spirituality Australia (JISA). Inspired by Laudato sí Prayer for Our Earth.
Creator God – you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
Embrace with tenderness those who are meeting in Fiji and Tuvalu in October to consider climate priorities of the Pacific and a regional COP31 response.
That they may have hearts that are filled with courageous awe and contemplation to amplify Pacific voices seeking to keep ambitious climate goals within reach, to find ways to enhance access to climate finance and the sharing of First Nations wisdom connecting us all with the Blue Planet.
We seek communion with the oceans that create the river above, forming a safe climate for all.
Creator Christ – be with those affected by the increasing impacts of climate disruptions and from overshoot of the world’s resources as consumption grows, especially those forced to migrate.
We stand with the peoples of Fiji and the Pacific whose islands, homes and lives are impacted the most by climate disruptions, a lost legacy. Let their voices be heard and their grief be named. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the Earth. Open their hearts to the conversion needed to love Sister, Mother Earth more fully, to be integral with, not disconnected from Earth. We are all standing on holy ground.
Creator Spirit – fill our hearts with love to be a voice for the voiceless, to be ecological justice leaders in a world seeking heroic wisdom.
Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice as our earth community gathers for COP31 in November, a place where radical decisions to care for our common home are needed.
Give us wisdom and passion to change our minds and hearts and our ways; to live simply, walk gently, and advocate boldly – that Earth may flourish, and future generations all “bala ga lili” [1] as we seek reconciliation with God, with others and with Mother, Sister Earth.

Support the Jesuits for Climate Justice Campaign
As people of faith, we reaffirm our urgent responsibility to protect our common home and defend climate justice for the most vulnerable. Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and the lived realities of impacted communities – especially Indigenous Peoples, frontline communities, and those historically marginalised – we call on global leaders and negotiators to seize the remaining window to limit warming, end the fossil fuel era, and ensure a just transition centred on human dignity and ecological healing.
We invite all Jesuits, partners, and friends of the Society of Jesus to join us in this work: to pray, to learn, and to act in solidarity with those most affected by climate injustice by signing on to the global campaign Turning Hope into Action 2026 as individuals or on behalf of your institutions.
