The Society of Jesus has released a prayer guide to accompany the global call for climate justice through prayer and reflection. This initiative is part of the Jesuits for Climate Justice Faith in Action at COP30 campaign.
A fruit of the collaboration of different apostolates, including Fe y Alegria, Jesuits, lay collaborators, and members of the Global Ignatian Advocacy Network, the guide includes Prayers of the Faithful for every Sunday beginning 5 October until 23 November, as well as daily prayers and reflections throughout COP30 from 10 to 21 November. Each prayer is accompanied by a beautiful artwork drawn by students from Fe y Alegria schools.
The prayers correspond to the four key calls of the global Jesuits for Justice climate campaign, which include
- Debt cancellation the debt of poor countries,
- Strengthening the Loss and Damage Fund to support those most affected by the climate crisis
- A just energy transition that respects human rights and prioritises sustainable livelihoods
- Promoting food sovereignty through agroecological practices.
Inspired by the 10th anniversaries of Laudato sí and the Paris Agreement, as well as the fourth Universal Apostolic Preference to Care for Our Common Home, the COP 30 prayer and liturgical guide invites all individuals and communities to pray together, seeking not only policy change but also ecological conversion rooted in gratitude, responsibility, and care.
