On the 111th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific’s Migrants and Refugees Network (JCAP MRN) reaffirms its commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with all migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons, and walk with them as pilgrims and missionaries of hope.
We recognise the urgent call to listen to their sacred stories of struggle to survive in a world that easily forgets and foregoes. From this listening, we pledge to continue the accompaniment that we envisage will lead to discerned solutions from the ground up in place of top-down quick fixes.
In so doing, we want to respond to the concern that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV highlighted in his message on this occasion: “The widespread tendency to look after the interests of limited communities poses a serious threat to the sharing of responsibility, multilateral cooperation, the pursuit of the common good and global solidarity for the benefit of our entire human family.”
To address this, JCAP-MRN pledges to continue its promotion of a universal culture of hospitality and reconciliation through ongoing engagement among its members on the ground as well as with key stakeholders, churches, and civil societies. May the hope that migrants, refugees, and internally displaced persons exude in their tenacity and fortitude to arrive at a better tomorrow, in a world that finally welcomes them home, inspire every member and partner in mission to continue the work for the greater glory of God.
Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam!
